Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) Report

This report, compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), tracks weekly price movements of 51 essential commodities across 17 urban centers to gauge short-term inflation trends.


1. Headline SPI Figures

  • Current Week (Combined) SPI: 335.84 (Base: 2015-16 = 100)
  • Week-over-Week (WoW) Change: -0.64% (Decrease)
  • Year-over-Year (YoY) Change: +4.00% (Increase)

2. Inflation Impact by Income Group (Quintiles)

The weekly decrease in SPI provided greater relief to lower-income groups.

3. Major Price Movements (Week-over-Week)

Prices Decreased for:

  • Tomatoes: -30.11%
  • Onions: -12.41%
  • Potatoes: -6.92%
  • Chicken: -4.46%
  • Sugar: -3.31%
  • Diesel: -1.67%

Prices Increased for:

  • LPG (11.67 kg Cylinder): +3.50%
  • Garlic: +1.86%
  • Cooking Oil (5 Litre): +1.54%
  • Eggs: +0.81%
  • Bread: +0.57%

Summary: Out of 51 items, prices decreased for 15 items (29.41%), increased for 13 items (25.49%), and remained unchanged for 23 items (45.10%).

4. Year-over-Year Price Trends

Compared to the same week last year (05 Dec 2024), significant changes are:

Notable Increases:

  • Sugar: +37.49%
  • Gas Charges (Q1): +29.85%
  • Wheat Flour: +17.50%
  • Beef: +13.47%
  • Firewood: +12.59%

Notable Decreases:

  • Potatoes: -40.47%
  • Garlic: -38.51%
  • Tomatoes: -31.51%
  • Onions: -29.87%
  • Pulse Gram: -29.54%

5. Monthly SPI Trend for 2025-26 (Lowest Quintile Q1)
