The NTDC (National Transmission and Despatch Company) is Pakistan's sole National Grid Company, with transmission network spreading all over the country except areas served by KE. The network includes transmission lines long 8059 km at 500kV and 11503 km at 220kV.
09 January 2021, NTDC system suffered a major breakdown, plunging Pakistan into darkness.
NTDC currently fulfills this role, however; there is an immediate need for an independent SO as legal mandate for NPCC (National Power Control Center-part of NTDC) has expired.
Pakistan's first 600kV HVDC transmission line is being constructed for power evacuation from plants in Southern region to Northern load centers. The line is expected to be 886km long, with a capacity of 4000MW.
